Communication spans six registers from informational to artistic, on a spectrum from information to presence. At one end, AI excels. At the other, where value lies in the human behind the words, it fails. Wisdom is knowing where you stand.
AI and Communication
When it comes to using AI in our communications, what I see tends to be a bit polarised. At one end of the spectrum, there are people who say, "Yep, use it for everything," and at the other, people who wouldn't touch it with a bargepole. Then, of course, we have the usual collection of people who express with confidence exactly what we should do about a new technology which we don't really understand yet.
So as an experiment, I thought I would work with Claude to see what came up. The results are interesting and valuable, and I'm going to use them as a base for doing some more work, which I will also post here.
