Registers, Circles, and the Limits of Borrowed Knowledge

In my last workshop post, I shared an experiment working with Claude to map the spectrum of communication, from the purely informational at one end to the expressive and artistic at the other.

The key finding was simple: AI is not merely adequate but often superior at the information end; at the presence end, where the value lies in the relationship behind the words, “artificial” makes it a contradiction in terms.

The critical boundary lies between analytical and persuasive communication, the point at which an audience’s need shifts from content to conviction, from what is said to who is saying it.
